From A Dream I Had

From a Dream I Had

From A Dream I Had

A bed full of bodies on fire
Deep inside my mind
Dismiss it for it
Is only a bunch of cats
That wouldn't go away
Said the father that lurks there
As I watched and smelled
The cooking, I could see
The spirits restless
And hungry, full of passion
Inside my attic
They were the ones that
Belonged to this land
And we once invaded
Justifying to take it away
Meeting them inside
Deeper in my mind
Asking me to read the cards
Tell us of her travels
The wise man laughed
Saying, though I got
Every symbol wrong
My reading was very accurate
I said it was the way my mind spoke
He accepted and from their side
I watched as the little girl
That was only another me
Risked her life to read the truth
Speaking of it as others thought
She didn't know a thing
Because she was only a little girl

With my pale white skin
I sat with the smooth dark silk
As his strength hovered
More lies trap his love of
His people there, singing forth
Like cool cats in bands of jazz
Of a bar owned by a hateful
White man wanting illusions in the child
Chief of my heart watched beside me
As I watched my child trick
All the liars into truths as
She flittered among as the Earth
We are rising she said to me
As she danced by to assure me
He watched her too, listening
For the Earth did speak through her
She whirled and lept as she left
The children that I am, know
And we will tell in our art
That they don't see anyway
That it is time for everyone of us
To see this world and the spirits of it
We shall see through their
Theology as one of them
While we rise above the lies
We shall smile with the new stories
